Japanese Multiblock Water-based Woodcut Print on Awagami Hosho Paper, 20.5 cm x 29.5 cm, mount size 30 x 40 cm, varied edition of 2, 2024.
I live in Rotherhithe in an old warehouse above the river. I have dreams about the river. I have sleepless nights because of the river. I imagined the icefairs on the river, which happened during Shakespeare’s time.
I love Whistler’s moody paintings of the Thames, and Japanese Woodcut with its endless layering possibilities seems the right technique to convey the mood and atmosphere. An ongoing project responding to the ever-changing colours, moods, stories and dreams about the river.
